From Yorkshire rockabilly roots to Nashville-inspired Americana, Texan Raiders are creating a distinctive country music world with their upcoming album, The Adventures of Glenn the Cowboy.
Country music has always been about storytelling, memorable melodies and characters that audiences can connect with. Texan Raiders are embracing all three elements with a project that combines traditional Americana influences, contemporary country songwriting and an unexpected animated twist.
Their album, The Adventures of Glenn the Cowboy, introduces listeners to a musical world shaped by decades of experience, a lifelong appreciation of American roots music and a playful creative vision.
Born in Yorkshire and forged in Brixton, London, Texan Raiders draws inspiration from the sounds and traditions of American country music. The project reflects a musical journey that began with teenage rockabilly bands in Leeds before developing into a career spanning songwriting, record deals and television composition.
A formative trip to Nashville and Memphis in 1987, including visits to Sun Studios and Graceland, helped strengthen the connection with American musical heritage. That influence remains central to the Texan Raiders sound, which combines country, Americana and melodic songwriting.
A Country Album Built Around Stories
At the heart of The Adventures of Glenn the Cowboy is a collection of songs exploring familiar human experiences through engaging arrangements and relatable storytelling.
One of the project’s standout tracks, ‘Log Settee’, focuses on the importance of spending quality time with the people around us. Its message encourages genuine conversation and human connection rather than relying entirely on social media and digital communication.
The album also features ‘All About Ya’, written following a meeting with songwriter Gavin Alexander at a Chris Difford songwriting retreat in Italy.
Musically, the project brings together an accomplished group of players, including pedal steel guitarist CJ Hillman, who has performed with Kiefer Sutherland and Billy Bragg. Other contributors include fiddle player Ben Ivitsky, bassist Rory Dempsey, Flying Pickets vocalist Simon Foster, drummer Harpal Mudhar, harmonica player Liam Ward and banjo player Chris Lord of the London Bluegrass Band.
Diamonds in the Dust Leads the Next Chapter
Looking ahead, ‘Diamonds in the Dust’ is set to become the next single, with its release planned for Valentine’s Day.
It will be followed by ‘Wahoo Feelin’ Alive’, a more upbeat track combining pop and country influences with an infectious rhythm designed for the dancefloor. Inspired by the electric slide, the song celebrates line dancing and the ability of country music to bring together different generations and musical backgrounds.
The release schedule offers audiences two different sides of the Texan Raiders project, balancing the storytelling traditions of Americana with a more energetic country-pop direction.
Meet Glenn: The Animated Cowboy
Perhaps the most distinctive element of Texan Raiders is Glenn, an animated cowboy created to bring the music and its stories to life.
Accompanied by his on-and-off girlfriend Glenda, Glenn is presented as an honest, likeable and down-to-earth character with recognisable human imperfections. Through humorous animated videos, the characters provide another way for audiences to engage with the songs.
The longer-term ambition is to potentially develop Glenn and Glenda into an animated country music series, expanding the project beyond its musical foundations.
With a creative identity that combines songwriting, animation and traditional country influences, Texan Raiders are building something that extends beyond a conventional album campaign.
The Adventures of Glenn the Cowboy celebrates the enduring appeal of a good country song, bringing together musical heritage, humour and storytelling in a fresh and distinctive way.
